2024 will be AF Corse’s third LMP2 race after receiving their first entry in 2022 with 2021 24 Hours of Le Mans LMGTE Am winners Francois Perrodo, Alessio Rovera and Nicklas Nielsen bringing the car home in 19th overall in LMP2 and 4th in LMP2 Pro/Am.
2023 saw Francois Perrodo, Norman Nato and Ben Barnicoat retire 14.5 hours into the race after completing 183 laps. In 2024 Francois Perrodo will be making his third attempt at the LMP2 Pro/Am 24 Hours of Le Mans title with AF Corse, being joined this year by Ben Barnicoat and Nico Varrone.
AF Corse have won four times in LMGTE since 2013, taking both the LMGTE Pro and LMGTE Am titles in 2021, and last year won the 24 Hours of Le Mans overall with James Calado, Alessandro Pier Guidi and Antonio Giovinazzi taking Ferrari’s first overall victory at Le Mans since 1965 with the Ferrari AF Corse Ferrari 499P.
The 2024 24 Hours of Le Mans will be Proton Competition’s first ever entry into the LMP2 category at Le Mans with Jonas Ried, Maceo Capietto and Bent Viscaal driving the no9 Oreca Gibson in this year’s race.
In LMGTE Proton Competition or as Dempsey Proton Racing or Abu Dhabi Proton Racing, has taken five podium finishes since 2013, with a win in 2018 for the no77 Dempsey-Proton Racing Porsche 911 RSR driven by Matt Campbell, Christian Ried and Julien Andlauer (see main picture).
Like AF Corse and Proton Competition, TF Sport is a relative newcomer to LMP2 at Le Mans, with an entry for Racing Team Turkey in 2023.It was a DNF for the car, retiring after 87 laps and just under eight hours of racing completed.
In this year’s race the no14 AO by TF Oreca-Gibson will be driven by PJ Hyett, Alex Quinn and former ELMS LMP2 champion Louis Deletraz. Deletraz finished second in 2022 and 2023 and was on course to win in 2021 when the car driven by Yifei Ye stopped on the very last lap of the race. The Swiss driver will be hoping to gain the top step in 2024.
TF Sport has taken four podium finishes at Le Mans in LMGTE Am, with the British team claiming victory in 2020 with Salih Yoluc, Charlie Eastwood and Jonny Adam and in 2022 with Ben Keating, Hugo Chaves and Marco Sorensen.
The 2024 24 Hours of Le Mans will take place on June 15/16.
