FP1: APR Sets the Pace in First Practice in Belgium

The first 90-minute Free Practice session for the 10th edition of the 4 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps saw the no20 Algarve Pro Racing Oreca top the timing sheets to be the fastest overall and the fastest in LMP2 Pro/Am.  The second placed no43 Inter Europol Competition Oreca was fastest in LMP2, while the no8 Team Virage Ligier and the no23 United Autosports McLaren headed LMP3 and LMGT3 respectively at the end of the session.

It was Alex Quinn who set the fastest time in the no20 Oreca, the British driver lapping the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in 2m01.091s, 0.392s ahead of Nick Yelloly in the no43 Inter Europol Competition Oreca, who posted a 2m01.483, the fastest of the 13 LMP2 entrants.

Double race winner Daniel Juncadella posted the third fastest time overall, and the second fastest in LMP2 in the no18 IDEC Sport Oreca with a 2m01.543. The fourth fastest car was also the second fastest in LMP2 Pro/Am after Bent Viscaal lapped the 7km circuit in 2m01.595 in for Proton Competition, just 0.052s behind the no18 IDEC Sport and 0.091s ahead of the no29 TDS Racing Oreca of Mathias Beche in 5th overall and 3rd in LMP2 Pro/Am.

The LMP3 field was headed by the no8 Team Virage Ligier after Rik Koen set the session benchmark time of 2m11.169, 1.054s ahead of championship leader Theo Jensen in the no17 CLX Motorsport Ligier. The no12 WTM by Rinaldi Racing Duqueine with Australian Griffin Peebles setting the cars best time of 2m12.504.

The no23 United Autosports McLaren was the best of the 13 strong LMGT3 field with Wayne Boyd posting an early lap time of 2m17.981. The no60 Proton Competition Porsche was the best of the rest, with Belgian Alessio Picariello’s time of 2m18.130 just 0.149s behind the lead car and 0.040s ahead of the no74 Kessel Racing Ferrari of former champion Miguel Molina at the chequered flag.
